Using e-readers for as long as possible
The production of electronic devices requires raw materials and energy. A fully functional e-reader should therefore be kept in use for as long as possible and inspected before being replaced if a fault occurs.
PocketBook helps to extend the useful life of its devices through repair services, software updates, user manuals, customer support, and the professional refurbishment of selected returned devices and test units.
How does an E Ink display use energy?
An E Ink display primarily uses energy when the content on the screen changes, for example when turning a page. Once an image has been displayed, it remains visible without the display itself requiring a continuous supply of power.
Other device functions, such as the frontlight, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and audio playback, also consume energy.
The actual battery life depends on the device model, settings, and individual usage. Model-specific information can be found in the technical specifications and user manual for each device.
Repair before replacing
A technical fault does not automatically mean that an e-reader needs to be replaced.
PocketBook devices can be registered with our service centre for inspection and repair. The repair service is also available after the warranty period has expired.
The service centre will assess whether a repair is technically possible for the individual device. Before any paid repair is carried out, you will receive information about the next steps and the expected costs.
Register an e-reader for repair
Professional device refurbishment
E-readers returned within the 30-day withdrawal period or previously used as display and test devices do not automatically have to be removed from use.
Suitable devices are inspected and cleaned at a professional service centre. Where necessary, they undergo technical refurbishment.
Fully functional devices can then be offered for sale as refurbished e-readers. Information about their condition and warranty can be found on the relevant product page.
Install available software updates
Software updates can provide new functions, fix errors, and improve the user experience.
We suggest regularly check, whether an update is available for your model. Information and software for supported devices can be found in the PocketBook support section.

Return used devices correctly
Waste electrical equipment should not be disposed of with household waste.
When an e-reader can no longer be used or repaired, it should be taken to an appropriate collection point or returned through an electrical equipment take-back programme.
The PocketBook service centre can send an unusable device to beprocessed in accordance with the applicable waste electrical and electronic equipment regulations.
Before returning the device, you should remove your personal data and, where possible, restore the device to its factory settings.
