Without the active support of Esther Oldenburg and Klaus Radtke,
the range of impressive images and topics in this book would have
been considerably smaller.
My very special thanks go to them!
On our "discovery excursions" I received moti-
vation and encouragement from Esther to take
a closer look after all. She supported me with
many impressive photographs, creative ideas
and helpful advice. In a sea of stones, Esther
discovered the most wonderful objects with her
fine-sighted gaze after only a short time, which
she then presented to me with a victorious
smile.
With Klaus I have a long friendship with unfor-
gettable impressions and experiences. The joint
excursions to Finland and the intensive photo-
graphic encounters have had a decisive influ-
ence on my way of seeing. Klaus decided to
participate in my book project and gave me
deep insights into his inexhaustible picture ar-
chive.

L
ooking back, it was good to take
the required time of fifteen
months for this exciting topic.
This allowed many places to be visi-
ted and the objects to be photogra-
phed without time pressure.
Years ago, the first thoughts and emo-
tions about this title formed in my
head. The trigger of this impulse can
be found in my professional envi-
ronment. I often met people who ho-
ped that by owning a high-tech ca-
mera they would automatically get
"better" pictures. From a purely tech-
nical point of view, this expectation
is true, but not in the photographic
result.
Ultimately, social platforms also
flood us with lots of images. The im-
pression quickly arises that every
motif has already been photographed
by someone in the world. Complete-
ly in line with the trend of ubiquitous
fast-food photography, which is in-
tended exclusively for the moment, is
consumed and just as quickly falls
into oblivion.
A good reason to take up the chal-
lenge of "photography" anew and
leave the photographic mainstream!
From now on, put the focus more on
the everyday things that are worth
discovering and capturing by you.
Develop your own perspective to
take the motifs out of their contexts
and reassign them.
You have already taken the first step
towards this realization, otherwise
you would not be holding this book
in your hands. The next steps require
some time and patience until the
ability to "see deeper and further" is
awakened. The mind must also learn
to leave enough room for imaging.
The book is divided into individual
subject areas with varying degrees of
difficulty that can be targeted. Take
the "picture apparatus" at hand that
you are familiar with, i.e. the smart-
phone or camera!
I hope that you will go on a highly
motivated journey of discovery and
rediscover photography for yourself
in a special, exciting way!

„The human is an eye-animal“. The fact is that the sense of
sight is at the forefront of our conscious perception.
Around 78% of all information from our environment is
perceived with the eyes. Reason enough to take a longer
look at this topic. In the following, you will learn how con-
scious vision works and learn how to train your fifth sense
photographically.
