Chapter 1

Keep Your Children Free From Disease

It’s perfectly natural for parents to worry about their kids getting sick. Of course, as a mom or dad, you take responsibility over this aspect of your children’s health.

Here are some of the most important things you can do to protect your child from diseases:

Get Your Kids Immunized

Vaccines are a hot topic these days. But the truth of the matter is that anti-vaccine groups are in the wrong. There are simply too many myths about vaccines being spread by misinformed people or by people who stand to profit because they sell alternative medicines, books, or health programs.

In other words, believing that vaccines is bad is just as erroneous a belief as believing that Elvis Presley is still alive or that space aliens are living among us. The problem with the anti-vaccine belief is that it puts your children, and other children, at risk.

So get your children immunized, and follow the vaccination schedule recommended by their doctor. The World Health Organization regards vaccines as one of the most effective public health interventions, as it prevents about 2.5 million deaths among children every year. The CDC considers vaccination the 20th century’s greatest achievement in public health.

Have Regular Visits to the Doctor

This starts early in the life of your child, and it shouldn’t stop even as they are in their teens. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, during your child’s first three years there should be nine checkups at least.
