Ray Strachey was a British feminist politician, artist, and writer. In this book, Strachey uses the documents found in a box left by her grandmother which recount the religious, specifically the evangelistic, movements of the 19th century. This book is a grim and, at times, salacious tale of the dangers of being a fanatic for one's religious beliefs.
